The tårta bakery

About Us

A small Swedish bakery in the heart of Neston, Wirral. Run by Kim & Mike with a deep love of Scandinavian baking traditions and a belief that everyone deserves a proper moment of fika.

Our story

tårta began in Kim’s kitchen — a collection of her grandmother’s handwritten recipes, a bag of cardamom, and a deep longing for the tastes of home. Having grown up surrounded by Swedish baking traditions, she found that food was the most powerful way to keep a culture alive and share it with others.

After years of baking for friends and family in Neston, the response was unanimous: this needed to be shared more widely. Or at least, with the Wirral.

Her partner Mike — a passionate advocate for honest food and great ingredients — came on board, and tårta was born. A small, devoted bakery with one purpose: to bring the very best of Swedish baking to the North West.

What we believe

Fresh every day

No day-old pastries, no shortcuts. Everything is baked fresh each morning, exactly as it should be.

Quality ingredients

From Swedish pearl sugar to locally milled flour — quality starts at the source, and we don’t compromise.

Community first

Neston is our home. We believe food brings people together — and fika proves it every single day.

The art of fika

Fika (pronounced fee-ka) is one of Sweden’s most cherished traditions — a dedicated pause in the day to share a hot drink and something sweet with people you care about.

It’s not just a coffee break. It’s a philosophy. A recognition that life is better when you slow down, even if just for fifteen minutes.

At tårta, everything we make is designed for that moment. We hope our bakes become a part of your fika.
